Growing up in my house fun was a risky proposition. You never knew if it was okay to have fun in our house so I often say reading the adults to see if having fun had a “green light”. I spent my childhood being a reserved child who loved to read. When out with friends I would have fun, but it had to be away from the eyes of adults. I struggle with having fun to this day even though I realize that it is healthy.
Last night my sister Ali and I had a video call. She had received a Snuggie for Christmas from our friend Leetanya. It is a great gift as Ali is always cold. I mean ALWAYS! We had so much fun with that Snuggie it was insane. I haven’t laughed like that in so long. I now understand her reaction to my gardening hat. That hat is a floppy straw one that you can make do anything. She laughs hysterically when I wear it. Last night was an evening of being silly and loving every minute of it. By the time we signed off my face hurt from laughing.
The lesson here is that we can find fun in anything. If we open ourselves up to it we can have experiences that push back all the uncertainty. Laughter can lighten your burden, even if just for a moment, like nothing else. Try it.
